Nitto Denko (HK) Co. Ltd. participated in "Earth Hour 2010", an international event promoting the prevention of global warming. The event was initiated by the World Wildlife Fund in 2007. The participants demonstrated their intent towards countering the problem of global warming through the complete turning off of lights throughout the event.
Throughout Hong Kong participation in the event has been encouraged. Nitto Denko (HK) responded to the call and encouraged all employees to join in turning off their lights and electrical appliances as well as to start adopting a low carbon lifestyle. On 27 March 2010, 'lights-out' for an hour was implemented across 4,000 towns in 125 countries throughout the world and involved many buildings of worldwide fame as an initiative in support of the prevention of global warming.
On 22 October 2009 Nitto Matex (Thailand) Co. Ltd., employees and their families participated in "Planting Mangrove", an initiative which was sponsored by the Thai government. Mangroves are said to purify seawater. Participants in the program enjoyed planting seedlings whilst getting quite muddy. |
On 27 March 2010 Nitto Denko Fine Circuit Technology (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. participated for the third time in planting trees. As was the case in the previous year, this event was held in response to a call from the city where many companies participated. We will continue to implement and participate in activities related to environmental conservation in the future. |
On 1 October 2009 Nitto Tohoku plant received "The President's Award" from the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center at the 28th National Assembly for Encouraging Factories to Establish Outstanding Green Space Environments. The award is given to production plants which have promoted planting and which have received credit for environmental enhancement both within the plant and surrounding environment. The Tohoku Plant was chosen for the award out of 14 prize winners. |
The Nitto Onomichi Plant has promoted "Eco Commutation" by running eco friendly buses regularly since 2007. With our efforts recognized, we became certified and registered as the first "Excellent Eco-Commuting Workplace" from The Foundation for Promoting Personal Mobility and Ecological Transportation ("Eco-Mo Foundation") in July 2009.
Furthermore, for CO2 reduction, the easing of traffic congestion in the region and a reduction of risks of traffic accidents, we also received the highly recognized Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award. This award is given in recognition of environmental protection excellence in the area of public transport by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2009.
Hydranautics has become the first US-based membrane manufacturer to join The Climate Registry. The Climate Registry is a nonprofit organization that sets consistent and transparent standards by which to calculate, verify and report greenhouse gas emissions. It is composed of more than 331 major companies, cities and government and non-governmental agencies that have committed to tracking and publicly sharing their greenhouse gas emissions through the registry.
By joining The Climate Registry, Hydranautics has set a baseline goal for further reducing their greenhouse gas emissions as part of their continued commitment to responsible environmental stewardship.
