On August 2, 2019, Dr. Zhou, Associate Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, visited Nitto Denko (Shanghai) Innovation Center of Nitto Denko (Shanghai Songjiang) Co., Ltd. alongside ten researchers. Members of our group companies in the China area introduced the visitors to new technology and held a highly specialized exchange of opinions. Industry-academia exchange with this university, which is well-known as a prestigious school for the sciences, will lead to theme creation.
On August 3, 2019, Nitto Denko Material (Thailand) Co., Ltd. conducted educational support activities at a local elementary school. Employees installed lights, faucets, and more, revamped facilities such as the nurse’s office and athletic field equipment, and provided computers and other supplies.
In addition, the team used its knowledge and experience related to safety and environmental conservation in which members are routinely engaged to conduct fire drills and greening activities.
Internships are conducted annually at Nitto Denko Technical Corp. and Nitto BioPharma, Inc. In the summer of 2019, six individuals from the University of California, San Diego engaged in life sciences research. In addition, one student from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology studied product development with industrial applications.
From August 26 to 30, 2019, two Japanese students from the National Institute of Technology, Ube College participated in the internship program at Nitto Denko Materials (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. Although this was the company’s first time hosting interns from overseas, the staff did a thorough job guiding the students in all things IT and R&D, from basic knowledge to assessment and analysis.
On October 31, 2019, a team of volunteers from Nitto Denko (China) Investment Co., Ltd. visited the Monzen Elementary School in Maoxian, Aba, Sichuan Province on behalf of the Nitto China area and donated 300 books, a printer, and second-hand computers. A new “Nitto Library and Computer Room” was also opened in the school so that these items could be used.
In addition, the company joined together with Total Football Asia (TFA)* again to hold a soccer class.
2019 was designated by both the Japanese and Chinese governments as “China-Japan Youth Exchange Promotion Year,” and these activities were recognized as activities that contributed to promoting exchange.
Nitto Denko (China) Investment Co., Ltd. served as the title sponsor for a course held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Japanese Research Center from December 12, 2018 to October 9, 2019.
The course was composed of four sessions with lectures by guests including Dr. Haruo Shimada (Chairperson of Tokyo Metropolitan University), Kazuyuki Katayama (former Consul General of Japan in Shanghai), Professor Wu Jinan (President of the Shanghai Association for Japanese Studies), Professor Li Wei (President of the Introduction of Chinese Association For Japanese Studies), and Wang Shi (founder and Honorary Chairman of the Vanke Group). The content focused on a wide variety of topics such as current social issues, economic development, and Sino-Japanese culture.
We will strengthen industry-academia collaboration as well as promote academic exchange and joint research and development through these types of support activities.
