Nitto Denko Corporation (Headquarters: Osaka; President, CEO & COO: Hideo Takasaki; “Nitto”, hereafter) implemented CSR initiatives as part of its partnership activities at the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals, the season-ending finale of the ATP Tour, held in Turin, Italy, from November 10 (Sun.) through 17 (Sun.), 2024.
Nitto invited children and their families from U.G.I ODV, a Turin-based support group for children with childhood cancer, to attend the event. During the tournament, Nitto also solicited contributions from the Nitto Group employees, donating a total of approximately 1.74 million JPY to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Additionally, Nitto has donated “The Green Wall”, a sustainability-focused installation designed with live plants, to a primary school in the city of Turin. The wall was previously installed at the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals as part of the “Nitto ATP Finals Torino Green Project”, a joint initiative with the ATP, the FITP (Italian Tennis and Padel Federation) and City of Turin, aimed at reducing CO2 emissions at the event. At the food court within the tournament venue, Nitto donated 18,720 compostable paper napkins made from Nitto-manufactured materials (CAC non-woven fabric*).
*CAC non-woven fabric: A biodegradable, sustainable non-woven fabric that does not contain plastic.
The Nitto Group places ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) at the core of its management, striving to balance solving social issues with creating economic value. In line with this management policy, Nitto contributes to the achievement of a better society by supporting a bright future for children through the following Nitto ATP Finals partnership activities.
Since the Nitto ATP Finals was held in Turin for the first time in 2021, Nitto has collaborated with U.G.I. ODV to invite children and their families supported by the organization to attend matches at the event.
Furthermore, Nitto has provided them with the opportunity to become mascots, walking hand-in-hand with the players onto court before matches, a moment which has brought countless smiles and heartfelt feedback such as, “It was amazing to enter the court holding hands with the players,” and “I want to have more experiences like this”.
During the Nitto ATP Finals, Nitto encouraged donations to UNICEF’s emergency fund for natural disasters, which provides immediate assistance to children affected by unexpected natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods. Through an internal fundraising program, Nitto was able to donate a total of approximately 1.74 million JPY.
The “Nitto ATP Finals Torino Green Project” is a comprehensive initiative aimed at minimizing the environmental impact of the tournament. Funded by proceeds from a charity auction and donations from Nitto, the project supports the greening of Turin by planting trees in a park near the venue and greening bus stop roofs.
Moreover, as part of efforts to improve sustainable event operations, Nitto donated 18,720 compostable napkins made of Nitto's CAC non-woven fabric. The venue features “SmaGo,” a smart trash bin powered by solar energy that automatically compresses accumulated waste. At the Inalpi Arena, the venue of the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals, Nitto installed “The Green Wall,” a plant-covered wall which invited fans to engage directly with the theme of sustainability. The Green Wall was donated to a primary school in Turin after the event, helping to reduce CO2 emissions and promote environmental awareness.
