To reduce natural gas consumption in our manufacturing process, we have implemented a system that converts waste heat into thermal energy, such as steam and hot water, which is then reused in our production facilities. This initiative results in an annual reduction of approximately 2,400 tons of CO2. In line with our goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 57% by 2030 (compared to 2022), we are actively promoting various decarbonization initiatives.
We are actively working to reduce natural gas usage in our regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs). RTOs require a constant temperature in the heat storage tank and continuous combustion treatment, necessitating the use of natural gas as fuel during startup or when the solvent concentration in the exhaust gas is low due to production fluctuations. By measuring exhaust gas concentration in real-time and developing efficient production plans to maintain a consistent level, we have significantly minimized natural gas consumption. This has resulted in a 40% reduction in natural gas usage, leading to an annual decrease of 620 tons of CO2 emissions.
We focused on the outdoor air handling unit used to introduce air into the clean room and implemented energy-saving measures. By replacing the electric heater with a more energy-efficient heat pump and utilizing the discharged cold air for chiller cooling, we reduced electricity consumption by 68% and annual CO2 emissions by 399 tons. The company is actively promoting energy-saving activities centered on utility equipment, achieving a cumulative CO2 reduction of 5,900 tons from 2014 to 2022.
