We are conducting activities to introduce Nitto's environmental initiatives and make Nitto more familiar to people through exchanges with schools located near our business sites and participation in local events.
We have been conducting outreach classes as environmental education for nearby schools since fiscal year 2023.
We have been conducting outreach classes at nearby schools as part of environmental education since the 2023 academic year.
With the theme "The Story of Water," students learn about the importance of water resources through quizzes and experiments in an enjoyable manner.
We take part in the AEON Mall SDGs Week event. Through hands-on experiences such as crafting with recycled plastic pellets, using recycled blocks, and test-riding bicycle-type pure water filtration systems, participants can experience Nitto's environmental initiatives firsthand
To raise awareness among employees, we regularly distribute environmental newsletters and email magazines at each site.
We publish "Tohoku Environmental News" bimonthly (6 times/year). The articles cover a wide range of topics, including environmental messages from the plant manager, internal initiatives, and information related to the local environment.
We send out a monthly newsletter that introduces employees to the environmental activities of the Nitto Group and headquarters, as well as those in the surrounding areas and society at large.
We implement educational programs to raise awareness of environmental and energy conservation. As part of this, we hold workshops on climate change. After learning about the scientific mechanisms of climate change, each team discussed and made action declarations.
We worked on reducing plastic waste and raising employee awareness. By switching consumables to environmentally friendly products and removing individual trash bins while thoroughly implementing waste sorting, the amount of resource collection increased significantly compared to before implementation. We also aimed to raise employee awareness and understanding by issuing monthly newsletters and conducting SDGs talks.
We have been working to reduce food waste in the employee cafeteria since 2005. To prevent over-serving, we have established guidelines on meal portions to help ensure appropriate serving sizes. We also installed scales to visualize the amount of leftover food. Additionally, we implemented a campaign where employees earn mileage points when their leftover food is below a certain level, which can be exchanged for lottery tickets. Through this initiative, many employees participated, and awareness of food waste increased. As a result, the amount of leftover food per person was reduced by 27%. We continue to carry out similar activities to further reduce food waste.
